Word Study Program

My grade level this year has worked with a word study program instead of spelling. The idea being that our state testing tests more on vocabulary and word parts. I have developed the weekly lists and morning activity sheets to go with it. I have also created vocabulary cards and definition cards to use for a memory game. I have more than 36 lessons developed. I know it is too late for this school year--it was being created.

However, I am going to begin putting together Lesson packages that will be available for next school year. The lists cover synonyms, antonyms, homographs, homophones, prefixes, suffixes, math terms, compound words, proper nouns, etc.

I'd really like to know if there is any interest out there for such a program. I feel like it's been beneficial for our kids. I'm posting a sample of a lesson sheet below for you to see. Hope to hear what you think. Please follow my blog to catch all of the goodies.

Taking Time Off

I'm off this week due to some work I had done on Monday. I had the veins worked on in my left leg. I am hopeful that my leg won't feel so heavy and that it won't hurt after it's healed. It is sore from the procedure. I walk around the house, sit awhile, walk some more--I even walked 15 minutes on the treadmill. The doctor said it was very important that I walk.

So, I created my weekly plan. Then, I went in and created a scripted plan for each day. I have daily folders for paperwork. I filled each of those with what was needed. It's a lot of work to prepare to be gone. But, I know I couldn't have gone back until next week. I had to go in today and get the dressings changed. Then, I go back on Friday for another ultrasound. Starting tomorrow, I'll begin planning again for next week.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!!

Number of the Day Changes

I'm posting a new version of my Number of the Day. I've made some changes that allow for you to put in your number as before, but instead of even or odd, I decided to have them add the digits together. Then, I changed one box to have them list all of the factors of the date. Today is the 19th, so they would have to list all of the factors of 19. A third box has students creating fractions from the digits of the number of the day and putting them in order from least to greatest. For example, in the number 184, students could list 1/8, 1/4, and 4/8. In order: 1/8, 1/4, 4/8. When we get into higher multiplications, I will make more changes.

Try out this freebie and let me know how you like it. You can pick it up at either of my stores. I'd love to have you follow my blog!!
Enjoy!

Windows Question

I'm thinking about a new computer. I have questions regarding Windows 8. Do any of you use it? How do you like it? I'm using Vista at this point. I know the new computers come loaded with W8--just wondering how you liked it? Also, I have never had Publisher. If you use it, what do you like about it versus using Word? So many things to wonder about, and it really helps when someone can give you a little info. I would truly appreciate any sharing regarding these.

Raining here again. It's rained tons over last night and again today. We have flood warnings out.
Enjoy your Sunday!

Hello everyone!!
Well, I've been back in my classroom twice. Cleaned it up--we missed the Friday before break due to snow. I've planned for 2 weeks. I'm going to try to stay ahead...hopefully that will continue. We go back tomorrow. I know the kids will be glad to be back. They always are. And, I also know parents are happy too.
I've had a really nice break. Took a little side trip on Friday to Louisville, KY to Frazier Museum. We got to see the traveling Princess Diana exhibit there. It was so neat. Had my sister-in-law, my daughter, and 2 granddaughters--girls' day out!! We saw many items from her childhood including film footage. We also saw many dresses, and of course, her wedding gown. It's a very nice museum!
I was sort of late in posting this, but it just took me awhile to get it designed. Then, it took me an enormous amount of time to figure out how to get it uploaded on TPT because of the size of the file. I learned to do zip files. Was that all? No--I had to figure out how to get the thumbnails small enough that they would accept them. Got it! I'm posting a picture below.
The file is a New Year Resolution writing activity. Brainstorming topics for resolutions, quick writes on some of them, and finally a final copy. I hope you like it. It is posted on TPT and will be posted on TN shortly. Just click on my button to get there.

  Have a good week everyone!
